Inflation growing concern for people in the UK
Published on 06 07 2022The current price inflation is a growing concern for people all over the UK. 45% of people are somewhat affected emotionally by the current situation, whilst 23% feel very much affected by the price inflation. This is evident from research conducted by DVJ Insights in five European countries. The Dutch are the least worried about the rising prices: 45% are affected somewhat, and only 9% say that the rising prices affect them greatly. The study is conducted among 1,250 people in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, and Norway.
Major impact on daily life
When asked to what extent current price inflation affects their daily lives, 37% of people in the UK replied that the situation has a big impact on their day-to-day. Germans feel the most impacted in their daily life (39%). The UK and Germany also feel the most emotional of all countries. In the UK, people most often feel worried and angry, whilst in Germany, people mostly experience fear and fury.
Finances heavily affected in the UK
In the UK, 41% of those questioned struggle with their finances, and for 19% the situation is as far as problematic. Among the Dutch, 48% indicate to be struggling, whilst 8% assess the situation as problematic. This is in line with inflation figures: inflation affects the UK economy most (9.1%), followed by the Netherlands (8.8%), and Germany (7.9%). Denmark (7.4%) and Norway (5.7%) are among the least affected countries in Europe.
Holidays most often cut
When it comes to cutting costs, people in the UK, the Netherlands, and Norway currently look the most towards holidays and trips. In Germany and Denmark, budget cuts on clothing, shoes, and accessories are the most common way to save money. People in the UK also look towards clothing items, followed by social activities such as meeting friends or going out for dinner.
