ARE PEOPLE WORRYING
After 10 days of focus on care homes, testing targets, and PPE challenges, there is still no sign of the level of concern coming down. At the end of March, levels of concern in the Netherlands and Germany were the same as the UK. Those are now around 10% points lower vs the UK, reflecting where they are with their response (although there has been a jump back up in the last 10 days in Germany).
ARE PEOPLE TAKING PREVENTIVE MEASURES
The percentage of people having done something remains high and at similar levels seen in the Netherlands and Germany (encouragingly, lower levels of concern are not bringing behavioural compliance down in those countries).
ARE WE STAYING HOME MORE
‘Staying at home as much as possible’ is sticking as a behaviour through the last 10 days even though there are reports of more activity on the roads and some businesses slowly opening up.
HOW DO WE FEEL ABOUT THE GOVERNMENT
After more confused messaging on lockdown easing, attitudes to what we’re hearing from the government and what they’re doing, have not changed in the last 10 days. This is a different picture to the Netherlands and Germany where attitudes are more positive, perhaps reflecting greater clarity and transparency.
INFLUENCE ON PURCHASE
6 weeks into lockdown and still over a third of people are planning on doing more online grocery shopping. The categories seeing increases are fresh fruit & veg, cleaning products and alcoholic drinks – a desire for eating healthier at the same time as indulging more but not forgetting to keep the house clean.
RESEARCH METHOD DVJ INSIGHTS
The sample for this study consists of over 500 people per measurement. This number is large enough for reliable results. In addition, a representative sample by gender and age, education level and region were used. Based on this sampling method, we can state that the results represent the opinion of the United Kingdom as it was at the time of measurement.
